Info Post

Taylor Swift has become a style icon not for pushing the envelope and trying each new trend that comes along, but for feminine, everygirl outfits made up of preppy, all-American duds that look right at home next to a Kennedy. Her repertoire includes retro dresses, usually to the knee and paired with low heels or flats; red lipstick; skinny jeans; striped tops; and of course, high-waisted bikinis.

What we’re saying is, it’s hard to go wrong when copying Taylor. We’ve tracked down five of our favorite Swifty styles that are perfect for the school year ahead, and found replicas you can shop right now.

A BLUE-AND-WHITE STRIPED SHIRT

This look has endured for more than a hundred years, which is real staying power in the world of fashion. Called Breton stripes, similar shirts were made the official uniform of the French navy in the 1800s. Taylor’s version is a riff on the original, and French company Saint James makes a very close facsimile. Chance’s version hews more classic, with thicker white than navy stripes. And Boden has the top in a variety of colors.

A SADDLE BAG

Cross-body saddle bags have been enjoying a renewed popularity for a few seasons now. They free up your hands and they’re the perfect size for all your essentials. We’ve seen Taylor sporting lots of these, including the cool blue one pictured. For some reason, blue leather bags are hard to come by but Coach has one in a similar hue as part of its new Legacy collection. We also love Dooney & Bourke’s luxe-looking version, and for a serious outlay of cash, Chloe’s got a really chic little style in fall’s hot color, burgundy.

A CABLE KNIT SWEATER

A back-to-school mainstay, these sweaters are available for fall in all sorts of colors and materials. J.Crew has a cashmere copy in the same fuchsia as Taylor’s, Vanessa Bruno’s got a heavier-duty wool/alpaca blend and Ralph Lauren’s cashmere/wool style comes in bright red, gray and a heathered green.

A TOGGLE COAT

Like a khaki trench or a black motorcycle jacket, designers return year after year to this prep-school staple. You can find versions at all price points and colors, from Delia’s (whose coat rings in under $100) all the way up to Burberry’s super-swank thousand-dollar-plus option.

DARK BLUE SKINNY JEANS

Thank god for dark skinny jeans. They look great tucked into boots, which keeps your hem from getting wet from snow or rain. They’re really flattering. And they balance out bulky winter layers. Taylor wears hers everywhere; pick up similar pairs at J Brand, Express and Paige.
