Watching Waka Flocka Flame’s new video for “Get Low,” you may be forgiven for forgetting that we’re in the year 2012. First there’s the title, which it shares with one of the top tracks of 2003. Then there’s the blacked-out laser set, a throwback to Usher’s “Yeah.” (The lasers have gone red in their old age.) Then there’s the autotuned hook, a hallmark of 2008.
But there’s still enough new here to like, from the stutter editing to the best-pals chemistry between Flocka and Nicki Minaj. (The faces they’re making up top could have come from any 9th grade sleepover.) Look at the way everyone breaks character at the end—they’re having fun!
