The One Direction you know and love will stay One Direction.
Just as Zayne promised, the shaggy British fivesome will not have to change their name, settling with the American band that had sued them for trademark infringement earlier this year.
California pop-punk band One Direction brought a lawsuit against the “X Factor” One Direction back in April, claiming that they had trademarked the name in 2011 and were entitled to a share of the profits accrued by the Simon Cowell quintet. (They were treated to death threats from fervent 1D fans, for their troubles.)
In today’s compromise, the British One Direction agreed to keep being called One Direction, while the American One Direction agreed to change their name to Uncharted Shores.
Despite getting absolutely nothing they asked for and being forced to change their name, the former One Direction is happy with the resolution, according to a joint press release.
